DUNEDIN, Fla. — A man from Pinellas County scratched off a big prize while playing the Florida Lottery.
Ryan Swan, 41, bought a 500X THE CASH scratch-off game from a Rally convenience store located off Main Street in Dunedin, according to a press release.
Swan claimed a $1 million prize from the game, choosing to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000. The convenience store where he purchased the ticket will receive a $2,000 bonus commission.
The game costs $50 per ticket and features a top prize of $25 million. The Florida Lottery says that's the largest-ever prize offered on a Florida scratch-off game.
"With more than $1.66 billion in cash prizes, the game's overall odds of winning are 1-in-4.23," the press release says.
The Florida Lottery contributes billions of dollars to "enhance education," sending more than 983,000 students to college through the Bright Futures Scholarship Program.
Since 1988, the Florida Lottery says its games have paid more than $97.1 billion in prizes and created more than 4,100 millionaires.
