Child ejected from car after DUI crash in St. Petersburg

The woman was allegedly driving under the influence, swerved and hit a tree. The 2-year-old passenger was hospitalized after being ejected, police said.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A 2-year-old was ejected from a car after a woman was driving drunk and crashed into a tree, according to police.

Krista Carver, 33, was driving at 11:30 p.m. on Friday going southbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Street South with no headlights and was swerving within its lanes. She crossed into the opposing lanes of traffic and crashed into a large tree. 

The child, who was improperly secured in a car seat, was ejected, police said. The 2-year-old was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Carver was showing signs of impairment at the scene and was arrested for driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury, child neglect, reckless driving causing serious bodily injury and possession of a controlled substance.
