Man accused of two murders in Pinellas County is arrested

James Barber Jr. faces two counts of first-degree murder, according to the sheriff's office.

SEMINOLE, Fla. — Deputies arrested a 28-year-old man on Saturday morning who is now facing two counts of first-degree murder, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

James Barber Jr. was arrested less than 24 hours after the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office asked the public for information on the man's whereabouts. Few details were provided surrounding his arrest, but the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said that the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office was the arresting agency.

On Friday, authorities said a double-homicide investigation was underway at 7981 Smoketree Court in Largo, about eight miles away from where Barber was last seen. Prior to his arrest, he was last known to be traveling on foot near 51st Avenue North between Duhme Road and Seminole Boulevard in Seminole, according to the sheriff's office.

"Barber is believed to be armed, but detectives state the incident appears domestic in nature, and there is no indication Barber is a threat to the public," the sheriff's office wrote in a Friday press release.

An investigation remains ongoing.
