PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — A Pinellas County Sheriff's Office deputy was injured when an SUV turned directly in front of his marked patrol vehicle.
It happened just after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of 49th Street North and 62nd Avenue North in Pinellas Park.
Crash investigators say the deputy was driving north on 49th Street North when the 35-year-old woman didn't see him and turned east onto 62nd Avenue North.
The deputy's vehicle struck her front passenger side, and her vehicle overturned in the intersection.
According to witnesses, the woman had a flashing yellow arrow -- while the deputy had a solid green light, investigators said.
Both people were taken to the hospital, but their injuries are not life-threatening.
The sheriff's office said neither speed nor impairment appear to be factors in the crash.
The woman was cited for failing to yield.
The 51-year-old deputy has worked with the sheriff's office since 1995.
