Deputies restrict access into Pinellas County due to Milton damage

There are many hazards blocking the roadways such as downed powerlines, flooding and fallen trees.

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — After being battered by Hurricane Milton, Pinellas County deputies have shut down the area until damage and safety assessments are completed.

Law enforcement officials are warning citizens to stay off all roadways due to hazardous conditions such as traffic light outages, downed powerlines, flooding and significant debris blocking roads.

The county is currently shut down at the county lines and barrier islands also remain closed as of 6 a.m. Thursday.

"All residents must remain sheltered in place!" deputies said.

Officials will update the status of the county when available.

"You MUST stay off the roads until advised otherwise by county officials," the sheriff's office said. "It is required for emergency responders and crews to complete rescues and recovery."

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
