ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating a deadly crash that left a motorcyclist dead Tuesday night on 34th Street North.

The crash occurred around 9 p.m. when a woman driving a silver Nissan Altima attempted to make a U-turn at 5th Avenue North to get on 34th Street North, officers said in a news release.

Forty-eight-year-old motorcyclist Ryan McKinley reportedly entered the intersection at the same time as the driver before the two collided. Officers said the motorcycle began to skid on the ground before hitting an unoccupied parked car on the northeast corner of the intersection.

McKinley was not wearing a helmet and later died from his injuries at Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, police said.

The driver of the Altima was reportedly cooperative with officers.

The investigation is ongoing, according to police.
