CLEARWATER, Fla. — A Clearwater man was arrested for allegedly killing two people in Massachusetts nearly 46 years ago.

On Nov. 19, 1978, around 9:30 a.m., 18-year-old Theresa Marcoux and 20-year-old Mark Harnish were found dead on the side of a road in Springfield. Local police said they found blood in and around a green Dodge pickup, and the two people were found with gunshot wounds just over a nearby guardrail, according to Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni.

They were previously seen earlier that morning just after midnight leaving a party hosted by friends.

As law enforcement investigated, they determined the two were shot while in the passenger compartment of the pickup truck, and their bodies were moved to near a guardrail. Autopsies determined the cause of death for each of them was multiple gunshot wounds.

When investigators processed the truck, they found a print in what appeared to be blood on the passenger-side window. The print was entered into the Massachusetts Automated Fingerprint Identification System and also manually compared to approximately 70,000 fingerprint cards, but no identification was made.

Investigators said while they worked for decades on the case, there were no leads until last month when the name Timothy Joley was given to detectives in connection with the two deaths.

Two law enforcement investigators with "extensive experience in fingerprint analysis, comparison, evaluation and verification" were able to match Joley's left thumbprint to the print found on the bloody window. Investigators also learned Joley, 71, was a licensed gun owner in November 1978, and he purchased a handgun about one month before the murders.

Law enforcement agents arrested and charged Joley with the murders of Marcouz and Harnish on Oct. 30. He is currently being held without bond in the Pinellas County Jail and will be returned to Massachusetts to face the charges in the coming weeks, according to officials.
