WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Polk County residents can soon expect a new way to get around after crews broke ground on the Central Polk Parkway on Thursday.
The groundbreaking event was held at 10 a.m. on the northeast corner of Thornhill and Fussell roads in Winter Haven.
County leaders say the stretch of road will extend about 6.5 miles from the Polk Parkway at Winter Lake Road to U.S. 17.
They reportedly hope it will enhance connectivity along with reducing traffic and congestion in the area.
The project is expected to cost about $257 million.
