CLEARWATER, Fla. — Beginning in April of 2025, stepping onto the sand of Clearwater Beach will be like stepping into "The Land Before Time."
No, we're not talking about "Jurassic Park." It's the Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival! And this year's theme is "DinoShores: A Prehistoric Adventure in the Sand."
The Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival draws thousands to Clearwater Beach every year, and 2025 is expected to be no different. The event will run from April 11 through April 27, organizers announced on Tuesday. Now in its 11th year, 2025 promises to be its "biggest year yet."
The festival will cover 24,000 square feet, featuring 17 world-class artists who are tasked with building elaborate sand sculptures from Clearwater Beach's beautiful sugar sand.
"More than 1,000 tons of Clearwater sand takes on a new life, bringing visitors on a unique and special adventure," organizers wrote in a press release.
Described as "architectural masterpieces," festival visitors often stand marveling at each work of art. Next year, the viewing experience will be enhanced with an "exciting, new augmented-reality experience that brings the intricate sand sculptures to life through vivid, interactive imagery."
For those looking for a more hands-on experience, organizers say that they'll be offering free sand-sculpting classes by partnering with Tampa Bay Sandsculpting Co.
It's not all sand and dinosaurs, either. Visitors will also be treated to daily concerts, performers and other entertainment options.
General admission for the sculpture exhibit will be $14, not including taxes. Admission for children three years old or younger is free.
Military personnel, police officers, firefighters, teachers and healthcare workers can purchase discounted tickets for $10 on "Beachside Hospitality Frontline Fridays," the press release explains. These discounted tickets can be purchased at the gate on April 11, April 18 and April 25.
All other tickets can be purchased online by clicking or tapping here. Tickets go on sale in December.
