ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A woman and a man are dead after they were hit by a car that was involved in a crash Saturday afternoon in St. Petersburg, police say.
At 2:21 p.m., a person driving a Toyota Corolla and another driving a Mazda sedan crashed into each other on 4th Street North at 72nd Avenue North, the St. Pete Police Department said in a news release.
As a result, one of the cars drove off the road and struck the woman and man, the latter of which was on a bike, authorities say.
The woman was reportedly taken to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead while the man died at the scene. Police say neither driver was hurt in the crash.
Due to the collision, northbound lanes on 4th Street are closed between 69th Avenue North and 73rd Avenue North. They are expected to remain shut down for several hours but the southbound lanes will remain open.
Police have not yet said if any of the drivers will face criminal charges.
The investigation of the crash remains ongoing.
