14-year-old boy shot in St. Petersburg; woman says teenage grandson called for help

The teen has been transported to John Hopkins All Children's Hospital.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A 14-year-old boy was shot Thursday afternoon in St. Petersburg, according to the police department.

It happened around 3:45 p.m. on 44th Street South near 20th Avenue South in the city's Childs Park neighborhood.

A police department spokesperson said the teen was with at least one other friend when another group fired several shots at them. The 14-year-old was shot in an alleyway and sought help at a nearby house.

The teen has been transported to John Hopkins All Children's Hospital, where he remains in critical condition but stable.

Sena Williams said she was out of the house when she received a call from her grandson.

Her grandson said the 14-year-old boy showed up at their home after being shot and needed help. Williams' grandson is a teenager himself.

"He was very upset, very distraught. It scared him a lot," Williams said. "He called 911. He called me. He called his mom. He did good with getting out the information. I'm very proud of him."

Williams said she worries about the health of the boy but is also worried about her grandson.

"It just makes me think that could have been my grandson," Williams said. "I just hope the little boy is okay."

No further details were immediately released.

A spokesperson for the St. Petersburg Police Department said they welcome anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward.
