Nearly a million kids need a place to go for help each year.
Maybe they are locked out of the house. Maybe there's an abusive situation they need to escape.
Tampa Bay area teens now have another place to turn for help.
The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority is part of the national safe place program. That means if they have a problem, they can ride on any of the system's 200 buses or go to any terminal for help.
Across the country, there are libraries, YMCAs, fire stations, and even businesses that have the safe place symbol.
This is something you can share with your kids. No matter where they are, they can text the word "safe" along with their location to 6-9-8-6-6.
This works 24 hours a day. Someone will text right back with the nearest place they can get help.
