Tampa, Florida -- Florida Hospital Tampa has built a state-of-the-art emergency room that uses a "see a doctor first approach" and a two-step decontamination process.
The building cost $70 million and includes 48 private rooms at the hospital at 3100 East Fletcher Ave. Six of those rooms are kid friendly with ambient lighting so the doctor can project videos or scenery on the walls to calm children who are often stressed about being at the emergency room.
President and CEO Brian Adams launched the idea of a "Doc1stER" process for patients. He learned about it after visiting a hospital in Ohio where a patient would see a physician first when they enter the hospital.
VISIT:Community open house
"We believe that will result in faster more effective diagnosis and shorter wait times in the waiting room," said Adams.
The hospital will have an open house from 10 a.m. top 4 p.m. Nov. 2 with tours, CPR and poison prevention education, food trucks, door prizes and entertainment.
