Video shows troopers deploy GPS tracker to catch man accused of assaulting officer

A Florida Highway Patrol Trooper was helping New Port Richey police track down Kip Thomas, 26, who is accused of assaulting an officer.

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol used a GPS tracking system to help take out a suspect during a chase in Pasco County.

A Trooper was helping New Port Richey police track down Kip Thomas, 26. Thomas had been accused of assaulting an officer.

The trooper’s dash camera caught the moment they deployed a GPS Tracker onto the vehicle they were pursuing.

Troopers said the GPS tracker helped law enforcement follow Thomas safely. Law enforcement said the tracker showed Thomas driving in the wrong direction.

Troopers said they were eventually able to send out stop sticks and get to Thomas before he was able to run away.

Arrest documents showed Thomas faces charges for driving with a suspended license, DUI, fleeing police, possession of methamphetamine and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
