FHP: Driver leads troopers on chase, crashes on U.S. 19 in Pasco County

The driver, later identified as a 32-year-old Port Richey man, sideswiped multiple cars at four separate locations along the road, according to FHP.

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — A chase with Florida Highway Patrol troopers ended in a crash early Monday morning on U.S. 19 in Pasco County.

Troopers say around 7:13 a.m., they witnessed the driver of a Chrysler van driving recklessly southbound on U.S. 19, south of Embassy Road and initiated a pursuit.

The driver, later identified as a 32-year-old Port Richey man, sideswiped multiple cars at four separate locations along the road, according to FHP.

"The suspect vehicle continued southbound in an extremely reckless manner, to include driving southbound in the northbound lanes of US-19," the agency wrote in a news release.

Troopers ended the chase at U.S. 19 and Sunray Drive after losing sight of the driver.

A short time later, FHP received reports that the van had crashed near Flora Avenue and the driver had run off. Two people were transported with non-life-threatening injuries.

Following descriptions from witnesses, troopers and deputies from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office brought the driver into custody near River Watch Boulevard.

The man was booked into the Pasco County Jail.
