PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — A 44-year-old New Port Richey man died after two drivers hit him as he tried to cross the road in Pasco County, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

It happened shortly before 12:30 a.m. Thursday on SR-54 west of Highland Loop. A 19-year-old New Port Richey man driving a Hyundai Elantra was going westbound on SR-54 in the center lane. Just behind him in the outside lane, a 68-year-old Holiday woman was also going westbound down the highway.

As both drivers got just west of Highland Loop, the 44-year-old tried to cross the highway and was struck in successive orders by both cars, FHP said. He died at the scene of the crash.

Neither driver was hurt, according to FHP.
