PASCO COUNTY, Fla.—It’s impossible to fit 75,000 people into the front seat of a patrol cruiser. But, it's a whole lot easier to take that many people on a ride-along through social media, also known as a “tweet-along.”
That’s exactly what the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office does every week to connect their deputies and patrol units with its community. And with people across the country.
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office’s assistant executive director, Chase Daniels, said the tweet-alongs give the public the chance to see a deputy’s day and engage with them.
“Some people might not know what a deputy’s day looks like, call-to-call, or what they do in their downtime -- like paperwork and things,” Daniels said.
It also gives people an opportunity to interact with the deputies like they’re in the cruiser with them.
This week they took people for a ride with K-9 deputy Nick Carmack and Shep. The pair might be familiar to Live PD fans. Remember “Get off my dog bro. Get off my dog bro”? This is them.
Daniels said that the department still takes requests for ride-alongs, it’s just hard to reach as many people as a tweet-along does.
If you’re familiar with the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, you’re probably familiar with their awesome social media game. That’s why it’s no surprise their tweet-alongs are so popular.
The tweet-alongs are reaching more people than ever too, Daniels said. The department just hit their goal of getting 75,000 Twitter followers for the year, and it’s just more than halfway through 2018.
