PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — A 68-year-old man is dead after authorities say he was hit and killed by a car in Pasco County Thursday night.
The Florida Highway Patrol did not identify the man who died by name, but did say he was a 68-year-old from Port Richey. He died at the scene of the crash.
The driver, only identified as a 21-year-old New Port Richey man, was driving a Dodge Charger going east on Old County Road 54, according to FHP. When the driver approached the intersection of Erin Brook Drive, FHP says the pedestrian walked "in the middle of the intersection" and was hit.
The collision happened just before 10:45 p.m., marking the second time a pedestrian was hit in Pasco County in as many nights.
A 16-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital shortly after 10 p.m. on Wednesday when he was hit by a car at Madison Street and Illinois Avenue in New Port Richey. In that case, the driver took off, and police are now searching for a four-door Kia Forte with a missing driver-side mirror.
The teen was hospitalized with what police described as "traumatic injuries to his lower body." He was initially admitted as a trauma patient. Police say his condition has improved since the crash.
Anyone with information regarding the Kia Forte in question is urged to contact the New Port Richey Police Department at 727-841-4550.
The Florida Highway Patrol says that no charges have been filed in Thursday night's crash, and the investigation remains ongoing.
