WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. — A man was arrested after he crashed into a Florida Highway Patrol vehicle while he was drunk driving, troopers said.

A trooper was investigating a different crash on southbound I-75, about a mile south of State Road 54 when a vehicle swerved out of its lane and sideswiped the right side of his patrol car around 2:15 a.m. Sunday.

Troopers said that the driver, Elmer Perez Ramirez, smelled like alcohol, had slurred speech and bloodshot watery eyes. The 23-year-old man told troopers he was drinking earlier in the day, according to his arrest report.

Perez Ramirez "performed poorly" on the sobriety exercises and was arrested for DUI.
