DALLAS — Nothing screams I care about you more than a room full of strangers who treat you to a make-over because they want to make your day brighter.
Today's Wednesday's Child is 14-year-old Destiny. She deeply craves a forever family and was treated like royalty at Paul Mitchell The School in Dallas.
"Everybody surrounded me with love," she said with a big smile on her face.
Tiana and a team of cosmetologists did her makeup, hair, and gave Destiny some beauty tips.
"She made me feel welcomed and loved by providing my makeup and she didn't have to do it. It was the kindness out of her heart, and she wanted me to feel special," Destiny said about Tiana and the team who cheered her up.
The day was about so much more than just hair and make-up.
"She told me to make sure you have a natural look. Make sure you use your primer first and make sure it's not too much and make sure you feel good about yourself," she said.
Destiny said what she needed was comfort because of what she was going through.
"I recently left my group home that I really liked," she said with her eyes filled with tears.
On the day WFAA interviewed Destiny, she had to move to a new placement yet again. It's soul-crushing. As she quietly cried, WFAA comforted her and reminded Destiny that she was never alone.
But Destiny needs more than a hug. She needs more than a promise. And she needs more than foster care.
"I picture a mom and a dad and a dog. And people that's gonna love me, care about me, and provide my needs for me," she said.
The Tournage family offered Destiny a scholarship of her choice at any of the Paul Mitchell schools they own and operate when she graduates high school.
Whether she decides to be a cosmetologist or a pediatrician, one day Destiny wants to work with children who she can relate to by comforting and reminding them of something very important.
"I've been through kind of like the same things as you but everything's gonna be okay, I promise. If I've made it through life, you can also make it through life too," she said.
Words of wisdom from a 14-year-old girl who will never forget her makeover, nor the strangers who treated her like family.
"I really appreciate all of the things that people do for me."
