Dade City, Florida -- After years of delays, the opening arguments have begun in the brutal murder trial of a nine-year-old girl.Gary Cannon is one of two men charged in the death of nine-year-old Sharra Ferger. Cannon and Sharra's uncle are accused of raping and then stabbing the young girl 46 times.Her body was found in a field near her home in Blanton on October 3rd, 1997.One Wednesday, jurors heard the graphic accounts of Sharra's last day. The trial is expected to last up to three weeks.Sharra's uncle, Gary Cochran, will likely face a jury trial later this year.
