North Port Police's twist on PokeStops

The North Port Police Department has added a twist to the game: the characters they’re catching could be you that’s if you’re breaking the law.

The Pokémon Go craze has caught on with North Port Police. Except the police department has added a twist to the game: the characters they’re catching could be you that’s if you’re breaking the law.

Officers are set up along US 41 running radar. When caught, drivers are looking at a very real fine of up to $200.

“I don’t know what rewards you are going to gain out here. While driving we may catch behavior we don’t want to see out here. We don’t want to any accidents, speeding, so be aware. So if you’re on Pokémon, you shouldn’t be driving,” says North Port Police Assistant Chief Mike Pelfrey.

North Port Police says don’t drive and Pokémon GO. It’s the kind of distraction that can end in a serious accident.
