TAMPA, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested 10 people for a variety of charges during a coordinated street takeover event Saturday night in Tampa.
The event was organized through social media and drew hundreds of people and participants. Drivers closed off an intersection to do donuts, drifts and engage in other illegal activities, according to a news release by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The youngest people arrested were two 17-year-old boys while the oldest were two 29-year-old men. Charges for people arrested included:
- Four racing on highway charges
- Three-drug related charges
- Six charges for passenger participation in a street race/takeover
Officials also recovered three firearms and impounded four cars from the scene.
Troopers recovered over $6,000 in assets, the release said. The 10 arrested were booked into the Orient Road Jail and the two teens were taken to the Hillsborough County Juvenile Assessment Center.
"Street racing and roadway takeovers are incredibly dangerous. They obstruct normal traffic flow and can prevent or deter emergency response, potentially putting lives at risk," the release read.
