TAMPA, Florida— It will be a big weekend for Tampa's Museum of Science and Industry. MOSI is celebrating the grand opening of its brand new cafeteria after nearly eight months without food service.
You may remember 10 Investigates first told you about major health code violations inside the MOSI Cafe's kitchen back in March.
Since then, the museum has brought in a new company, Ovations Food Services, to run their food operation totally redesigning the kitchen, offering a menu with new healthier options.
10 News got a sneak peek Thursday afternoon as MOSI showed off their brand new facility.
The new cafeteria called the "Everything's Fresh Market" will open Saturday morning beginning with breakfast at 10 a.m. which will then transition into an extensive lunch menu at 11 a.m. featuring fresh salads and panini wraps, seasoned with fresh herbs from MOSI's own herb garden, and a frozen yogurt station featuring an extensive toppings bar.
MOSI's new executive chef, Rene J. Marquis, will be conducting demonstrations for guests that incorporate both science and food, while MOSI STEAMpunks perform science experiments while interacting with guests both inside and outside of the cafe.
Chef Rene J. Marquis, an American Culinary Federation judge and a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, is a retired combat veteran of 21 years. Throughout his military career, he was team captain of the Unites States Army Culinary Arts Team and attended the Culinary Olympics in Erfurt, Germany, bringing home 31 gold medals.
Chef Marquis has appeared on a variety of popular culinary shows, including Alton Brown's latest show on the Food Network Channel, "Cutthroat Kitchen," where he finished on top as the winner of Season 1, Episode 7.
