Hillsborough Fire Rescue crews are cooling down a molten sulfur tank that caught fire at the Mosaic facility in Riverview Monday afternoon.
Mosaic spokesperson Richard Grant says after the fire started the fire suppression unit came on and employees were sheltered in place until they could be safely removed from the area.
Firefighters poured water on the tank for about an hour and a half to cool it down so it did not continue to burn. The tank will then be monitored with sensors.
US 41 was shut down for about 20 minutes as a precaution.
Officials say there is no danger to the surrounding area.
A spokeswoman from Mosaic's Riverview facility released the following statement on the incident:
"The fire has been contained and an investigation into the cause of the incident has been initiated. Our number one priority is always the safety of the people at our facilities and the surrounding community."
More info to come.
