CHARLES COUNTY, Md. — Police found a missing 5-year-old boy dead after searching all day Sunday in Charles County, Maryland.
Miles McMahon went missing from the 1000 block of St. Pauls Drive in Waldorf Sunday morning. Police say they received the call at 11 a.m.
Police say Miles was seen on home security footage leaving the house, skipping in his front yard. At some point, Miles wandered off. Family members searched the area then contacted police when they could not locate him.
Officers established a perimeter and focused their attention on ponds nearby. Before 1 a.m., members of the Maryland State Police dive team found Miles in a pond. Police said the pond and its surrounding area were the main area police were searching. A different unit had searched the pond earlier in the day, but the state police dive team checked again at night.
Miles has autism and is nonverbal. He is 4-feet tall, weighs 60lbs, and was last seen in the Bannister neighborhood in Waldorf, wearing a red shirt, no pants, or shoes. Miles has shoulder length brown hair.
