Thanks to social media and a good Samaritan, a St. Petersburg woman was reunited with a special keepsake on Wednesday.
Linda Modry says she gave a snow globe to her granddaughter, Katie back in February.
She engraved the date that Katie was officially adopted into their family: Jan. 25.
But when they were at St. Pete Clearwater International Airport, they couldn't take it through security and had to throw it out.
Another passenger fished it out of the trash, posted the story on Facebook and hoped to find the owners.
And it worked.
An employee at the Things Remembered retail chain saw the post, looked through records and helped the two connect.
According to Amarri Hernandez, the man was not allowed to take the snow globe on the plane and was told that he would have to throw it away. He said the snow globe belonged to his adopted children, and he asked to leave it behind at lost and found so his parents could later retrieve it.
The officer replied, "Put in in file 13," and pointed to the garbage can.
The man was visibly frustrated and threw the snow globe away.
Amarri and her boyfriend were watching the conversation from afar and felt bad, so they retrieved the snow globe from the garbage. Sure enough, the snow globe contained a picture of the man's child as well as a picture of the grandparents with the phrase "We Love You Katie. Nana and Papa 1/25/16."
Amarri wrote on Facebook:
We felt bad about the situation and want to find out who these people are so we can return their gift out of the kindness of our hearts , we wouldn't want this to happen to us so if everybody could please share this photo so we can find the owners of this beautiful family and give them back their precious gift
