PARRISH, Fla. — A 16-year-old is facing an attempted murder charge after they were caught breaking into a newly constructed home in Parrish, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
It happened just before 8 a.m. Sunday on Blue Diamond Trial in the Prosperity Lakes neighborhood.
Deputies say a homeowner went to do some work on his new, unoccupied home before officially moving in when he discovered the rear sliding glass door was shattered. He notified a nearby neighborhood security guard who entered the home to see if anyone was inside.
The security guard noticed that one of the interior doors to an upstairs bathroom was closed, which was unusual. That's when deputies say he opened the door and found the 16-year-old inside.
According to the sheriff's office, the teen pointed a gun at the security guard and squeezed the trigger several times, but the gun did not discharge. When the gun didn't work, the teen reportedly ran from the home.
Deputies were notified and located the teen within the neighborhood. The teen was ultimately spotted by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Aviation Unity in a nearby field and taken into custody.
The 16-year-old is facing charges of attempted murder with engaged in a felony, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, armed burglary, resisting arrest without violence and possession of a firearm by a minor.
