MANATEE COUNTY, Fla — A Tampa woman was hit and killed by a car as she was trying to cross Interstate 75 in Manatee County, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on southbound I-75 near US 301. According to troopers, a car driven by a 20-year-old man from Sarasota was going south along I-75 in the left lane.

At the same time, the 29-year-old Tampa woman was walking east on I-75, trying to cross the southbound travel lanes. As she did, the front right of the car hit the woman.

She died at the scene. Neither the driver nor his passenger were hurt, troopers said.

According to an update from FHP, before the woman was hit while crossing I-75, the woman was involved in an earlier, unrelated single-car crash in the median.
