PALMETTO, Fla. — Manatee County Sheriff’s Office detectives have arrested a student at Buffalo Creek Middle School for making a threat to blow up the school, according to a news release.
The 13-year-old student is charged with a false report of a bomb, which is a 2nd-degree felony.
On Wednesday, Feb 28., school administrators learned about messages sent to a Snapchat group, mentioning the school. Upon further investigation, they found a person using a fake name joined a chat with other Buffalo Creek students.
“This is a warning tomorrow I will blow Buffalo Creek Middle School up,” the person allegedly said. The person also sent a photo to the chat of a handgun with three magazines lying in a case, deputies said.
Eventually, the location of the message was tracked to a home in Parrish. Investigators say they later determined the person who sent the messages was an 8th grader at the school.
Deputies found no weapons or evidence that the student had access to or the ability to make explosives, the news release said.
The 8th grader later confessed to sending the threat after deputies interviewed them.
The investigation is still ongoing.
