ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A huge revamp is on the way for an iconic waterfront restaurant in Cortez.

The Manatee Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved a $13 million dollar deal to buy the Seafood Shack Marina, Bar and Grill. In a statement, the county said they plan to use the 8.8-acre land to build more public boat ramps and dry storage facility in addition to the marina component.

The county currently operates 9 boat ramp facilities, according to their website.

Planners pointed out that the new site has the potential to increase the number of boat trailer parking spaces for Manatee citizens by up to 25% county wide, officials said.

County officials said they plan to amend the lease and transfer the contract of current tenants and boat slip users. The sale is expected to close in October.
