DUETTE, Fla. — Low visibility from brush fire smoke temporarily shut down both east and westbound State Road 62 in Manatee County, the Duette Fire and Rescue Department said. The road has since reopened.

According to the agency, the fire started as a controlled burn but got out of hand somehow. The Florida Forest Service has been called in to assist.

Visibility in the area was reportedly close to zero because of the smoke from the flames. Fire officials said the smoke temporarily closed State Road 62 in the area but said it reopened just before 8 a.m.

Drivers in the area should use caution and consider an alternate route if possible.
