BRADENTON, Fla. — A Bradenton search-and-rescue K-9 is taking some time off after being bitten by a cottonmouth snake while training in Tallahassee, according to police.
Police wrote on Facebook that the bloodhound received immediate medical attention and antivenom after she was bitten on her paw.
Liberty is vaccinated against rattlesnakes, but not against the deadly cottonmouth, police explained. The pup is recovering with her partner, Detective Moyett, by her side.
In Texas, a therapy K-9 named Dante needed a wheelchair after injuring his leg while playing a game of ball earlier this year. Dante usually conquers any injury, but his partner knew something was up this time.
"He normally gets over things like within like a week," Carruth said. "The doctor was like, 'hey, you're going to be getting I think a good four to five months of recovery.'"
Because of Dante's injury, he could not do what he was trained to do.
It was reported that Dante eventually received a wheelchair from a viewer.
