MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — A 7-year-old boy is OK after he was hit by a car while getting on his school bus Wednesday morning in Manatee County.
The boy was hit at 8:10 a.m. at the intersection of 61st Avenue East and 5th Street East.
Troopers say a Manatee County school bus was stopped on 61st Avenue E. with its red lights flashing and its stop bar and signs deployed. As the bus was stopped, a 23-year-old Bradenton woman made a left turn from 5th Street E. onto 61st Avenue E.
A crossing guard on duty then blew her whistle, which got the woman to stop the car.
But troopers say the car began to move forward again. At the same time, the 7-year-old was crossing 61st Avenue East to board the bus, and that's when he was hit.
Fortunately, the child was determined to be uninjured after being evaluated by Manatee County EMS, a crash report says.
The driver was cited for not having insurance and for not stopping for the school bus. Her license was also suspended for an unrelated reason, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The investigation remains ongoing.
