TAMPA, Fla. — Detectives have launched an investigation after a teen was found shot and killed Tuesday in Takomah Trail Park.
Police say they received a call that a person was shot in the park just before 4 p.m.
Responding officers arrived to find the 16-year-old boy suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation, detectives learned that a group of people, including the teen, shot and robbed a 32-year-old man in the park. Police say the man returned fire by his legally-owned, properly-permitted concealed gun, which killed the boy.
The other people from the group left the area when officers arrived at the scene.
The 32-year-old man was found by police at a different location before receiving treatment at the hospital for his non-life-threatening injuries.
As of now, the investigation is still ongoing and further charges may be pending, the Tampa Police Department explains.
