Man charged with murder in Sarasota shooting deaths

Sarasota Police have charged a 64-year-old man with the shooting deaths of two men in front of a home in the 1700 block of 33rd Street.
Two men are dead after a shooting Monday evening in the 1700 block of 33rd Street in Sarasota.

Sarasota, Florida – Sarasota Police have charged a 64-year-old man with the shooting deaths of two men in front of a home in the 1700 block of 33rd Street.

Witnesses told officers Ronald Howard, Carlos Suarez Jr., 83, and Johnny Campbell, 65, had a dispute earlier in the day Monday.

Following the argument, Howard reportedly made statements to witnesses that he wanted to apologize to Suarez and Campbell.

He then walked out of home, closed the front door, opened the door back up and told both men, "God bless you," and then closed the door.

Witnesses told officers a short time later they saw Howard shoot the men in the front yard. They said he then sat down in the carport area where officers found him several minutes later.

A Smith & Wesson .38 Revolver was found lying in the yard between Howard and one of the victims. Officers also found blood on Howard's hands.

One victim's died at the home while the other was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital and later died as a result of his injuries.

Howard, 64, has been charged with two counts first degree premeditated murder.
