Tampa, Florida - Tampa police say two people died when their car crashed into the entrance gate at MacDill Air Force Base. Police say the 1992 Subaru SVX was traveling at a high rate of speed when it slammed into the entrance gate on MacDill Avenue shortly after midnight. Police say the driver, Joseph Esguerra, 26, of Lake Wales, and a passenger, Veronica Dietz, 26, of Tampa, died on impact. A police spokeswoman says the gate, which is not manned at night, was closed. Police tell 10 News, they do not think the crash into the gate was intentional or a security threat. Authorities say the entrance gate will be closed today because of the accident.
