If this was the year 1915, instead of 2015, you'd could find a blacksmith on almost any street corner. Now, you have to travel to a tiny garage in Lakeland to find Jonathan Porter and Alex Eisenberg mashing and melting away.

"We had neighbors," joked Eisenberg with a smile.

Porter chuckled from behind his metalworking tools.

The duo has been crafting knives in the Dog House Forge shop for a few months now. Porter started the business two and a half years ago and has sold more than 500 knives.

Who knew that there will still blacksmiths in 2015?

"When people ask what we do, people say, 'Well what's your real job?' And we say, 'I'm a blacksmith,' " said Porter. "Alex says it all the time. We are doing the smartest stuff you could possibly do 100 years ago."

Porter actually got into metalwork by making horseshoes.

"Up until 8 months ago I'd never even tried it," said Eisenberg. "It's pretty cool to think that someone in the wilderness of Canada is using one of our camp knives."

The duo hosts classes on weekends to teach those interested in learning how to make knives. Porter was recently featured on the History Channel show, "Forged in Fire."
