Kash n' Karry will change name to Sweetbay Supermarket

The name change is a part of the grocer's move to focus on cultural, ethnic and healthy foods during the next three years.

Tampa - Kash n’ Karry is changing its name to Sweetbay Supermarket. The name change is a part of the grocer’s move to focus on cultural, ethnic and healthy foods during the next three years. Yesterday’s announcement comes two months after Florida’s third-largest grocer closed 34 unprofitable stores and cut 15-hundred jobs in the state. Company officials said they hope the new concept will better reflect the diversity of Florida. It also will give the chain a niche discernible from its major rival grocer, Publix Super Markets. The first Sweetbay store will open this fall in Seminole. Later in the year, the four new stores and dozen existing stores in the Naples/Fort Myers area will convert to the new name and format. The new name will be phased in during the next three years.
