Cameron Elias was working to restore power after Hurricane Milton when he saw an overturned car and immediately jumped into action.

WAUCHULA, Fla. — A line worker in Wauchula went "above and beyond" Sunday when he stopped to rescue two people from an overturned car.

Peace River Electric Cooperative, Inc. shared photos on Facebook showing Cameron Elias with PowerLine helping two occupants trapped in a car.

Elias was working to restore power after Hurricane Milton when he encountered an accident at the intersection of Highway 17 and REA Road, according to Peace River Electric.

When he spotted an overturned car in a nearby ditch, he jumped into action. Elias attempted to break the car's windshield with a trailer hitch borrowed from a bystander. When that didn't work, he began kicking a small hole in the windshield.

From there, Peace River Electric said Elias donned his work gloves and began enlarging the hole with his hands until the occupants could escape the car.

"Cameron should be commended for his quick response and awareness in helping our community not only by helping restore power to those impacted by Hurricane Milton, but going above and beyond in responding to this traffic accident as well," Peace River Electric shared in the Facebook post.
