Ybor's 7th Avenue to say goodbye to concrete, reintroduce brick road

The brick renovation will begin Monday, July 29, and is expected to be completed in under six weeks, according to the city.

TAMPA, Fla. — Starting next week, a popular area in Ybor City will get a makeover.

7th Avenue from Nick Nuccio Parkway to 26th Street will trade out its concrete for brick.

The project will be completed in multiple phases and will take up to six weeks, according to the city.

The funding for the roughly $430,000 project comes from the Ybor CRA fund, which is money captured through new tax revenue and invested back into the community.

Downtown business owners like Richard McIntyre say they're excited to see the area brought back to its historic roots.

"I think it's going to enhance the experience of coming to Ybor City. It's definitely traffic-calming, you can't speed down a brick road or your car will self-destruct," McIntyre joked. "But most importantly, we're in a historic district and the paved road just doesn't look the same when you have historic buildings."

Construction begins next Monday, July 29.

While there have been some concerns about the project disrupting business downtown, business owners say July and August are typically slower months of the year for them.
