Woman pulled from car moments before it goes up in flames after crash in Hillsborough County

You can hear the deputy in body camera footage say that he needed to get the woman out of the car because it was on fire.

CITRUS PARK, Fla. — A Hillsborough County deputy rescued a 70-year-old woman moments before her car caught on fire after she crashed into the woods on Monday.

The crash happened on Gunn Highway near Copeland Road around noon, according to the sheriff's office.

The woman, who the sheriff's office did not identify, suffered "minor injuries" and was taken to the hospital. She has since recovered.

Body camera footage from the incident shows the woman underneath the airbags and smoke coming from the car. You can hear the deputy, identified by the sheriff's office as Deputy Bellamy, making sure she was OK. The woman gestured toward her neck and upper chest after asking if she was hurt.

"Alright, let's get you out the car 'cause it's on fire," Bellamy says before pulling her out.

Later in video provided by the sheriff's office, from a different vantage point, you can see a large tower of smoke coming from the woods in the distance.

The sheriff's office did not say how the woman crashed.

"Deputy Bellamy's swift and selfless response undoubtedly saved a life in a critical moment," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. "His courage and quick thinking exemplify our deputies' dedication to serving and protecting our community."
