Tampa police search for missing 64-year-old

TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa Police Department has issued a Purple Alert following the disappearance of a 64-year-old man.

William Hankins III was last seen at around 2:30 a.m. on July 10 leaving the area of North 40th Street and East Hillsborough Avenue on foot. It's believed he was wearing a red shirt, black shorts and black shoes.

Hankins is 6 feet, 2 inches tall, weighs approximately 200 pounds, is missing his lower teeth and has schizophrenia, police said.

Anyone with information on Hankins' whereabouts is asked to call TPD at 813-231-6130.

A Purple Alert was introduced in Florida in July 2022 and is issued when an adult over the age of 18 with mental, cognitive, intellectual or developmental disabilities disappears. It is different than a Silver Alert, which is used to locate missing people 60 years or older suffering from deterioration of intellectual facilities.
