RUSKIN, Fla. — A truck driver died after colliding with a train on Tuesday afternoon in Ruskin.
Hillsborough County firefighters responded to calls reporting an explosion and heavy smoke near the train tracks on Old Highway 41 and found multiple train cars and the dump truck engulfed in flames. The incident also ignited small brush fires in the surrounding area, according to a news release.
Fire rescue crews successfully controlled the fires within a half hour and no hazardous materials were involved since the train was transporting gravel and the dump truck was carrying sand.
Video from Sky10 shows the overturned truck with the sand spilled out and the front part of the truck scorched.
No firefighter injuries were reported.
The cause of the incident is currently under investigation, fire rescue officials said.
