Power fully restored after Tampa International Airport experiences outage

Power was restored to the main terminal late Wednesday, however, other parts of the airport were running on emergency power until early Thursday.

TAMPA, Florida — Some travelers were stuck on airplanes at Tampa International Airport as crews worked to restore power outage issues happening throughout the facility Wednesday evening into the overnight hours.

The airport began experiencing power outages that impacted the main terminal and airsides A and F at around 9:05 p.m., Tampa International Airport said in a news release.

"Our teams are assessing the issue and working to resolve the outage as quickly as possible," TPA said on its Twitter account. "We will provide updates here on our Twitter account."

At around 10  p.m., power was restored to the main terminal, but the shuttles and all airsides except A and F were running on emergency power.

Just after midnight, airside A's power was restored. Then, around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, the airport reported airside F was back online and full power was restored by Tampa Electric.

"Airside F is back online," TPA said in a tweet. "TECO has restored power to all areas of the Airport and normal operations have resumed; additional repairs are expected. The cause of the outage remains under investigation."

TPA has not yet determined what caused the power outages but worked with TECO to get it restored. Airport crews worked to restore power to the jetways to unload passengers from some gates Wednesday night, a spokesperson told 10 Tampa Bay.

Until power was completely back, TPA operated at limited flight operations, the airport said.

Passengers with flights in the near future should get their most up-to-date information from their airline company.
