TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa General Hospital is expanding its world-class care to meet the growing needs of the region.
TGH broke ground on its new surgical, neuroscience and transplant tower on Monday evening.
Once it's constructed, the 13-story, 565,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility will provide space for expanded patient care, education and training, and emergency response. Construction is set to be completed in March 2027.
The tower, which will be located adjacent to the hospital’s main building on Davis Islands, will add 144 patient beds, 32 operating suites and increased intensive care unit space with room to continue growing in the future.
The surgical, neuroscience and transplant tower is the flagship of $550 million TGH's Master Facility Plan — its plan to create a world-class medical and research district in Tampa over the next several years.
Several elements of the master facility plan have already been completed, including new ICUs, a new parking garage, a bone marrow transplant facility, a rehab hospital, an emergency center and a cancer institute.
“The new building will not just transform Tampa General’s campus, it will be pivotal in our efforts to transform the health care landscape,” John Couris, president and CEO of Tampa General Hospital, said. “The TGH Surgical, Neuroscience & Transplant Pavilion will be an intersection of technology and human ingenuity, where patients can access best-in-class providers, modern equipment and state-of-the-art facilities."
