Police investigating homicide after teen brought to hospital with traumatic injuries

Officials say the 14-year-old was brought to the hospital with "upper body trauma" and later died.

PLANT CITY, Fla. — A 14-year-old boy was brought to a Plant City hospital overnight with "upper body trauma" and later died, police said.

Officers responded to the hospital around 1 a.m. on Thursday. An 18-year-old man was also taken to the hospital with similar traumatic injuries and is currently receiving treatment, according to a release from officials. Police have not identified either teens.

It's not clear what caused their injuries, but the Plant City Police Department is investigating the 14-year-old's death as a homicide.

Police have only referred to what happened to the teens as an "incident" that happened in the "vicinity of" W. House Street and Lakewood Avenue. Investigators do not know how either teens were taken to the hospital.

Police are asking anyone with information on what happened to contact the agency at 813-757-9200.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
