TAMPA, Fla. -- The 5-story building was supposed to easily come down in 30 seconds on Sunday. It didn't.
For the past three days, crews have used different tactics like weakening the structure by cutting steel support beams and using four excavators and cables to pull the building over. Some of the cables snapped early in the process.
Crews tried again Tuesday morning, but the Bromley won't budge.
A possible reason? Crews on Sunday told us the procedures to bring the building down are in place because crews want to reuse the nearly 24,000 pounds of concrete at the site for Midtown Tampa.
Tuesday afternoon, however, the building finally came tumblin' down.
The $500 million development near Westshore and Interstate-275 is set to be completed by 2021 and will include a Whole Foods, apartments, a hotel, seven acres of green space and 24,000 square feet of retail space.
