TAMPA, Fla. — Before you put your trash can out to the curb for pickup this week, take a moment to look at the schedule because it may have changed.
Monday is the observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which means many city and county offices are closed for the federal holiday. In addition to those closures, trash collection is disrupted because of the holiday.
Here's what you need to know about trash pickup for the week of Jan. 15:
Tampa residents who usually have their trash collected on Monday won't have garbage, recycling or yard waste service on Jan. 15, 2024. Additionally, residents who have trash pickup on Mondays won't have a make-up day for garbage collection — this means people will need to wait until next Monday, Jan. 22, to put out those bins.
Commercial customers who have trash pickup will have a delayed service date because of the MLK Day holiday. Customers who typically get service on Monday will instead have it on Tuesday, and so on. The city says collection service is set to run one day behind through Saturday, Jan. 20.
The regular collection schedule resumes on Monday, Jan. 22.
If you need to dump trash at a collection center, Jan. 15 isn't the day to do it at the McKay Bay Transfer Station and Scale House. The 34th Street facility will be closed in observance of the MLK Day holiday. The station will reopen for regularly scheduled hours on Tuesday.
