TAMPA, Fla. — A 19-year-old was arrested after police said he shot into a car after getting into a crash in Tampa.
The shooting happened just before 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of South Morgan Street and Channelside Drive near Amalie Arena, according to the Tampa Police Department.
Officers said they learned the two-car crash escalated into a fight between the people involved. When they returned to their cars, 19-year-old Shyquan Lee Galon pulled out a gun and fired multiple times at the other car, which had at least one person inside, police said.
After firing gunshots, Galon reportedly left the area.
Police said no one inside the targeted car was hurt by gunfire; however, one person took themselves to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries that resulted from the fight.
After gathering leads, officers said they got in contact with Galon at his home and arrested him.
He was taken to the Orient Road Jail and booked on charges of battery, criminal mischief and shooting at, within, or into a vehicle, which is a felony.
Police say if you believe you are in danger from an aggressive driver or that another driver is trying to start a fight, make sure you call either your local law enforcement or 911. You're asked to not follow the offending driver. When calling the police, you'll be asked to provide as much information about the driver and car as possible to help officers find the aggressive driver.
